Since 1884

The oldest water polo club in Australia

1884

Tigers at Balmain

Aquatic polo at the Corporation Baths, White Horse Point: twelve a side, the referee on the diving board, goals scored into a lifebuoy.

1896

First state title

Balmain wins its first NSW Championship in 1895/96, and the 1st Grade again in 1898/99, beating the Balmain B team 4 goals to 1.

1910

Black and gold

On 30 September the colours change from red and white: black for Blackwattle Bay, gold for the wattle on its foreshore.

1948

First Olympians

Ben Dalley and Eric Johnston play in Australia's first Olympic water polo team, in London. A Balmain player has been in every team since.

1964

Women's water polo

Playing as Birchgrove Ladies, our women win the first NSW Ladies competition, then join Balmain in 1965/66.

2000

Olympic gold

Bronwyn Mayer and Taryn Woods win gold with Australia's women at the Sydney Olympics.

2024

Paris silver

Sienna Hearn and Genevieve Longman win silver, with Taryn Woods as assistant coach and Bronwyn Smith as manager.
